SLITTING CUTTER

Introduction
Slitting cutter is a flat, circular milling tool with cutting teeth on the outer diameter and a central hole. The tool is connected to an arbor through this hole, allowing it to perform machining tasks where a significant amount of material needs removal within a small diameter-commonly referred to as slotting or cut-off applications.
Slitting cutter are typically employed for cutting very narrow slits or slots in materials. Unlike endmills, which may face rigidity and deflection issues when going more than approximately 4-6 times the slot width in depth, Slitting cutter direct cutting forces more advantageously. This results in faster and superior performance for the cutter when handling deeper cuts.
Common Application
-
Separation of Two Material Pieces:
When the task involves cutting a piece of material, such as a rod, into two halves, a Slitting cutter proves effective in efficiently separating the pieces.
-
Undercutting Applications:
Properly mounted, cutter can handle undercutting applications, eliminating the need to completely remount the workpiece.
-
Slotting into Material:
With the capability to create thin slots with a substantial depth of cut, Slitting cutter are ideal for tasks requiring precise slotting or cut-off applications.
When To Use A Slitting Cutter
Slitting cutter are crafted for cutting through a diverse range of materials, leveraging their distinctive shape and geometries to efficiently create thin slot-type features on parts, surpassing the
capabilities of other machining tools.
